     Letter permission to marry

My parents live in Indonesia. My fiance tried to call my Dad and asked his permission to marry me. At the same time my mom is sick, so my Dad thought my fiance called to ask about my mom so he didn't understand ther eason for the call. My fiance wants to send a letter to ask his permission to marry me before he calls my Dad again. Can ypu help with wording for that letter? I really appreciate any help for that.

Re: Letter permission to marry [In reply to]

In the USA, we don't usually ask permission anymore since people are marrying older. usually, if a man wants to really show respect to the father of the bride, the couple may visit, call or write the parent's, letting them know the couple's intentions. Asking for permission leaves the dad open to say no. So, if you aren't 100% sure he will say yes, I would write a letter just explaining your intentions. Speak from the heart and you can't go wrong. Ask him to explain your love for one another and all of that good stuff!

Hope you're able to have success with this.
