Okay to send wedding announcements after 3 months?

In my rush to get everything taken care of for our wedding, I completely forgot to send an announcement to a friend of ours. We were married in June. The announcements were sent out shortly after our wedding except for this one. Is it acceptable to send it now? Should I include a note of apology along with it?
