     Pre-Wedding Party Announcements & Invitations?

We are having a backyard wedding party (not a reception) a week before our wedding for ALL family and friends, as the actual wedding will be a very small, private ceremony. We were going to send a wedding announcement AND party invitation to all those people invited to the party but not to the wedding. Reading some previous posts - this seems wrong? How do we tell our family & friends we are getting married and would like their company at a party in celebration??? Thanks.

Dear Pre-Wedding Party,

It is difficult because most pre-wedding parties are gift giving situations and this may be perceived as one. So, some of your guests may confuse this with a very huge improper bridal shower.

So, it may be best to invite your guests to a party and then surprise them with the news.

Announcements are sent out after the wedding so they are not confused with invitations.

Best wishes,
