Sending a gift when receiving a wedding announcement

I just received a wedding announcement for my step-mother's nephew (step-cousin?). The wedding has already taken place. I was just curious what the etiquette is: am I expected to send a gift to the bride & groom? acknowlege the wedding with good wishes (a card or something)? do nothing? I guess, I do feel as though I should do something. Thanks for your advice.

A wedding announcement does not oblige the recipient to send a gift however if you'd like to acknowledge their wedding and send good wishes you could send a card, a note or a gift.
