Sending wedding announcements or reception invitations

My husband and I were just married July 29, 2007. We would like to send out wedding announcements to our family and friends, but we also would like to have a reception next spring.

Do we send out the announcements and then later send out reception invitations? I'm afraid that my family members will be confused and assume that we're asking for gifts twice (although gifts will not even be mentioned at all in either instance).

Please help! It's getting late for announcements all together!

Thank you so much.

C. Kinder

Wedding announcements do not obligate the recipient to send a gift - just as a matter of fact. You will send announcements to everyone you want to inform that you have been married and then send reception invitations to the reception guests about 6-8 weeks before the reception.

Thank you for your timely response! I'll do just as you said and hope for the best. My family members can be kind of kooky.

Thank you again!
