     Which family members get announcements?

My fiancé and I are having a private wedding, just us. We knew this is what we wanted from the moment we were engaged, so both of our families know not to look for invitations. We would like to send announcements after the wedding, but to whom?

For my fiancé's family it is easy. He has a small tight-knit group of aunts, uncles and adult cousins who he sees at least a couple times a year. My family is tougher. My relatives live all over the country, and, with a few exceptions, I only see them every few years. However, my aunts and uncles do speak to my parents frequently. I do not want any relatives to misinterpret the announcement as a request for a gift, but I don't want to offend anyone by leaving them out. Any suggestions?

Receiving a wedding announcement does not obligate the recipient to send a gift. Send an announcement to anyone you want to tell about the marriage.
