Wording wedding announcements with divorced and widowed parents.

My mother is twice divorced, and my father is deceased (not having been in the picture). The groom-elect's parents are also divorced, and both have remarried. Because it was so convoluted, we settled on the following for our invites:

Together with their parents

Kathleentsy K Bride

and

John J Groom

invite you to share in their joy

What would be the appropriate wording for wedding announcements with divorced and widowed people? Can we use "Together with their parents" again? Am unsure of how to transition out of that into "were married on" lest it sound like we married our parents. :)

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Dear Kathleentsy,

Why not just say: Kathleen Smith and John Doe were married... . You don't have to mention parents unless this is a very formal, traditional affair.

Best wishes,
