sending wedding announcement before reception invitation?

My husband and I were just married July 29, 2007. We would like to send out wedding announcements to our family and friends, but we also would like to have a reception next spring.

Do we send out the announcements and then later send out reception invitations? I'm afraid that my family members will be confused and assume that we're asking for gifts twice (although gifts will not even be mentioned at all in either instance).

Please help! It's getting late for announcements all together!Thank you so much.

Dear CGrace,

I hope you mean that you will have a reception this coming spring. More than a year after a wedding would be an anniversary party.

Just send a save the date for the reception or send reception invitations 8 weeks before your event.

Only send announcements to those not invited to the reception.

Best wishes,
