when to send wedding invitations, announcements and save the date cards

I will be getting married in March. When is it appropriate to send the announcements? When to send save thedate cards? Do you send people an announcement, then save the date, then invitation or is the announcement only for those not invited? If March 14th is the date, when do I send the invitiations, announcements and save the date cards?

Dear Jamiec,

It seems as if you need a lot of information. All of this is mentioned in our many posts concerning invitations. Plus, you may want to read a very good wedding planning book that focuses on etiquette.

Announcements are sent after a wedding to only those who need to know and were not invited to the wedding or reception. Save the date cards are sent one year to three months before the date of the wedding to those invited to the wedding. Invitations follow at two months to six weeks before the wedding to all who received save the date cards.

Best wishes,
