I am the mother of the groom, and we want to send wedding announcements to family and friends that weren't invited to an out of town wedding. Should the announcement come from us, or should the bride's parents be included? Could you just say,
"We wish to announce the wedding of our children(?).
I am paying for the announcements. Please help as I only have a month until the wedding...

Re: [SBP] wording of wedding announcement
[In reply to]
Dear SBP:
Wedding announcements are not sent to anyone who received a wedding invitation and are mailed after the wedding. Usually, the time frame is a few days after the wedding but not all circumstances permit that so a delay is fine. Gifts are not expected but some may choose to send one anyway.
Traditionally, the wedding annoucement is worded similarly to the invitation and is made and sent by the bride's parents or by both sets of parents. You could use wording like this:
Bride's parents only:
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
have the honour of
announcing the marriage of their daughter
Mary Ann
to
Mr. Joe Michael Jones
Saturday, the fourteenth of July
two thousand and five
Atlanta, Georgia
or, both sets of parents:
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
and
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jones
announce the marriage of
Mary Ann Smith
and
Joe Michael Jones . . .
I hope this helps you. Rhonda Allen, Bridal Consultant New Beginnings Weddings
