My fiancee and I are wondering if there is a way to address a wedding invitation so that it follows some form of etiquette but also reflects the more modern times that we are living in. More specifically, we want to acknowledge the existence of females being invited to the wedding as more than merely the spouses of the male.
Is there another way to address the invitation other than, for instance, Mr. and Mrs. John Doe? Can we address it as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Doe? Or just John and Jane Doe? Or is this too informal or inappropriate?
Actually, many people are moving toward the non-traditional addressing of invitations. You may choose to use first names, or Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Doe. You might want to use the traditional with older people though--out of respect for their sensibilities.
