Addressing wedding invitation to a family when not using inner envelope.

Hello again,

Thank you for all your help so far. I'm learning a lot of detailed information on this site! I searched your posts and found it is acceptable to write "Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Family" on an invitation without an inner envelope. Is it improper to address an invitation without an inner envelope "The Smith Family" when you are inviting the whole family? I guess it's the same thing as above, but I was wondering if it might be too casual for a semi-formal event?

Thank you again

Dear LLL,

This is perfectly fine. The only problem is that sometimes people don't know how to be good guests. So, if you allow them to invite the entire family, they just might invite uncle Joe that is visiting that week. So, it may be best to list the couple on the outer envelope and include an insert stating that they may bring their children. But, it is your choice.

Best wishes,
