     Awkward Guest Question

My fiance and I decided to only extend an "& guest" to friends and family with significant others. However, after the invitations went out, a (single) friend contacted us and asked if the invitation was for one or two people. How can we politely tell them that the invite was just for one, sans "& guest"? Please help us get out of this awkward situation!

It's okay to tell a single friend that, unfortunately, the invitation was just for her since your space is limited (budget is limited, etc). Only couples who are married, engaged oe living together for a significant amount of time have to be invited as a couple.
