     Boyfriend not invited?

A friend I've known for 25 years is getting married next month. I only speak with/get together with him a few times a year. I last spoke to him 3 months ago and he said that when he sent me my wedding invite he would put me down for 2 people since he was sure I'd have a boyfriend by then.

Since I wasn't sure if the guy I was dating would still be around by the time of the wedding I didn't mention that I was currently seeing someone.

I've now received the invitation and there's no mention of "and guest" on it. I'd like to bring my boyfriend of now 5 months, but don't know if he was forgotten on the invite or left off for economic reasons. How should I bring this up to my friend since he did originally tell me I could bring a guest?

Dear Novastar,

Asking would put your friend in a difficult situation. It isn't polite to ask. But, if you see your friend, you could slyly mention something about your boyfriend. Hopefully, your friend will remember.

Best wishes,
