Bride verbally tells my children are invited, invitation via mail does not include them

The bride (my niece) verbally told my 2 children (ages 7 and 10) 7 weeks ago, that they are invited to her wedding. My daughter was invited to her bridal shower and attended. Recieved phone call from MOB the day before we received the wedding invitation telling us no children are invited. There are children in the wedding pary. We are upset and hurt that we were led to believe our children were invited. What is the etiquette the bride should have followed? Thank you.MadFrown

Dear Casey,

It really doesn't matter at this point what the etiquette involved is since the couple has decided on inviting no children. But, a verbal invitation is as good as a written one. So, what she has basically done was to invite and then disinvite, which is not proper (in most cases) and is hurtful.

She shouldn't have verbally invited your children.

Best wishes,
