     Ceremony/Reception invites-different dates

The wedding ceremony will be small in western Kansas at the end of August....only family and very close friends. A big reception is planned in honor of the married couple in October 200 miles from the ceremony. Invitations are being sent to 1. invite guests to both the ceremony and reception--which will go out this week and 2 a separate invitation will be sent to those who did not get the first invitation

. The question is: How do I word the 1st mailing? There are 2 dates, 2 places, and possibly 4 responses (attend Aug event, October event, both or neither)...my question is how to word the 1st invitation? Ginny

Hello Ginny,

You are not unique in your plans being date separated. You will use one invitation for your ceremony guests and do it just like you would normally only emphasize the date on the reception card. Then for the guests only invited to the reception, you'll send an announcement with a reception invitation. Click on Wedding Invitations on this page for sample wordings.
