Consequences of wedding invitations sent 4 1/2 months before wedding
My son and his fiance became engaged in march. They are planning an outdoor late afternoon wedding followed by sit-down dinner at a country club scheduled on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend this coming September. (A miracle it worked!) Bride-to-Be is not planning to send save-the-date cards. She told me she plans to send out the wedding invitations by end of April. This really concerns me; it seems way too early and there may be negative consequences. Can you give your advice about why this may not be a good idea? It feels to me like a big wedding faux paus. Thank you.

Dear Bananakins,
This is a major wedding faux pas. We send invitations about two months before the wedding. Plans can and do change and it isn't polite to burden our guests with those changes. Plus, it could appear that she wants to make sure everyone knows about the wedding so she can ensure a good cache of gifts.
Their guests could forget about the wedding by then as well.
Please direct her and your son here or to any etiquette book.
