     Engagment Announcement

My fiance and I are getting married in Florida, most of my family live in New York. I really don't expect many of them to come, but I don't want to leave anyone who would like to come out. Should I send out an engagment announcement (card form) and ask who would like to be invited? And if so, how should I word it?

You can send out engagement announcements but it wouldn't be right to ask the recipients if they want to be invited to the wedding. This would be very awkward.

You should send a wedding invitation to all you would like to have at your wedding and let them decide if they would like to make the trip.
