     Etiquette for who to invite

I am just wondering how you would get the point across that you do not want to invite extended family that you have never met or whom you are not close with just because they are on the parent's guest list. My problem is this is the first marriage for both of us and we are paying for everything ourselves so to me we should be able to pick through and say who we want or don't want (ex:grandfather's brothers, bosses of in-laws ect.) but I don't want to seem too rude:(

please help

I'm not sure I understand the problem. You'll invite the guests you want to invite. Spread the word with your close family that the guest list will be very small an limited to immediate family only.
