Father of the Bride Insists Cousing Should Be Invited

My fiance and I are planning a destination wedding to Las Vegas. I have adult cousins we're not inviting, but I will be inviting all aunts and uncles. Some of them, though, have small children that they will have to bring and that is perfectly fine with me (about 7 kids all under the age of 6). My father thinks this is unacceptable and feels that I need to bump up my guest list by about 15 in order to invite all cousins.

Is that really necessary? Am I being rude?

Dear Bridaly,

You are only obligated to invite those with whom you are close, their significant others, and siblings of those children who live within the home of the invited. It's just impolite when a host invites one child but not another when those two children live together.

Best wishes,
