How to Word Invitations Asking Guests to Dress Modestly for Muslim Wedding
My niece is getting married in October. She is from a Christian family in rural North Carolina, and her fiance's family is Muslim and from Bangladesh.
Our problem is how to word the invitations to ask the guests dress modestly. At my son's wedding last summer (thank you for all of your help on that), the women wore strapless, backless and other clothing that would really offend the Muslim guests, many of whom are flying half way around the world to attend.
Thank you so much.

Dear Austinsmother,
I sympathize with you about the attire problem we have these days with many of our young women. Many just don't seem to realize how others perceive them dressed this way and how many are...well, a bit distracted by the show of too much skin.
The couple could use an enclosure asking guests to please dress conservatively--for example: no strapless dresses. Hopefully this will relay the message in a positive light. The couple could also state all of this on a wedding website.

Thank you. I was not sure that we could include an enclosure with the invitation. The bride and groom and their families have worked so hard to appreciate each other (even though it was difficult at times) that we want everyone to be comfortable at the wedding.
