How to handle RSVP for reception invitations

My fiance and I are having a small wedding with just family and then an informal reception/party a month or so after. How should I request an RSVP? Should I still include a response card? Thank you

Dear Nygirl,

It is probably best because so many do not know how to be good guests. However, since this is an informal reception, you may be able to use an email or telephone RSVP request. This is only applicable if the reception is small and informal, though.

It is humorous, though, if this was a formal reception, a formal response (no cards) would be completely appropriate. Guests used to be expected to handwrite a formal response. So few know how to do that these days, so here we are with the little cards and we have to use more stamps.

Best wishes,
