Informal dinner to meet in-law family after a private wedding

My step-son recently remarried and this is the bride's first marriage. They had a private ceremony out of town. The families have never met and my husband and I would like to host an informal dinner to introduce ourselves to our new daughter-in-law's family. We would also like to make this a shower for the couple. Any suggestions on how to word the invitation?

Dear Mrs. BW, A dinner to meet the in-law should be issued personally or over the telephone. Showers can not be held after the fact. If you want to host a post-wedding reception for the couple, that would be a lovely gesture. "Please join us for cocktails to celebrate Jane and Johns recent marriage..."
