Is it tacky or new milleniumish to send wedding invitations via email?

Dear Teepee,

If the wedding is a very casual affair, such as a backyard BBQ, then e-mail is fine. If it is to be a formal event, then formal invitations are more appropriate.

Absolutely. The invitation is an indication of the formality of the event.
