Our dear friend is married to man who never fails to offend people in social situations. Clearly we prefer he not attend our daughter's wedding. (Can't imagine who we would subject to having to sit at his table if he were there.) Is there any way we can exclude him?

Only those close to the bride and groom should be invited. But, if this woman is close to your daughter then she should be invited with her husband. It wouldn't be polite to invite one half of a couple. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

I completely agree. A wedding is no longer the social event for parents as it once was. So, this may be a very good reason not to inviting either. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now

Thank you both. That's what I thought. This friend is very close to our entire family. Guess we'll invite them both and just hope she choses to come alone.
