Inviting officiant when we don't know him personally
The person performing our ceremony is someone we do not know. He was recommended by the venue where the ceremony and reception are being held.
I understand that proper etiquette is to invite the officiant, but do I have to invite his wife as well? Do I need to send a formal invitation to him?
I did search and did not find an answer specific to this one as most people know the officiate and his/her spouse.

Dear Calvin,
Yes, it is proper to invite your officiant and his or her significant other. This is by formal invitation.
