     Inviting teenagers & no parents.

My little brother who is 19 has a best friend who is 18. They've known each others for over 10 years and I've come to view the friend as almost a little brother. He is constantly at my house and sleeps over all the time.
I wanted to invite him to the wedding, but not his parents. I do know the parents and have talked to them and even occasionaly gone to their house for dinner when I was younger, but I just can't invite them. There are people I have known longer and am closer to that I'm not inviting for the sheer cost and size of the wedding. My question is this:
Is it improper to invite the boy sans family? My little brother thinks I'm being rude.
Thanks for your help.

Since the young man is 18 and considered an adult it should be fine to invite him on his own.

I completely agree. At this age you would be sending him his own invitation even if inviting his parents. So, inviting him only is just fine.
