Kids welcome at wedding, but not reception

We are having a very small wedding only 65 people. We are getting married in a church and then having our reception on a dinner cruise on a lake. The boat only fits around 75 people, so we decided to have the reception be adults only so we could invite more friends vs. kids. We would like to say that kids are welcome at the wedding, but the reception is adults only. I have read that it is tacky to say this in the invitations, but in our situation we really need to because the boat literally will not be able to hold all the kids too. A large amount of our guests have kids including us. Do you have any suggestions on how to write this in our invitations and where.

You really cannot include some guests for the ceremony and then exclude them from the reception. This is like saying they are good enough to come to the gift giving portion of the wedding but not good enough, or important enough, to entertain and feed. This will be insulting to the parents as well as inconvenient. If you cannot accommodate the children then do not invite any children. You won't mention this in the invitation, but, as we mention in many past posts (please search the forum for more answers) you will only include the names of those invited on the envelope.

Bon Voyage!
