     Mother and Father inviting co-workers

My parents are paying for my wedding. They are confused as to who from work they should invite. My dad is a supervisor at a big company and does not know if he should invite his boss. I have never met his boss but would it be proper to invite him? My mom works in a credit union where she works directly with about 10 other people. I know some of these people and would like a couple at the wedding. Is it wrong to just invite a few of them? She thought she could post an invitation for just those people that she works immediately with. Is that proper?

Dear Jennifer,

The wedding really isn't a social event for parents these days. So, only those who you know and want at your wedding should be invited. Plus, inviting superiors often appears as apple polishing--not good.

Your mother could invite some, but not all. If she does, those guests should receive a formal invitation. We don't invite by a post.

Best wishes,
