My fiance and I have chosen to have a formal wedding and are putting together our final guest list. For some of our guests (mostly friends of the couple who are in their 20's) we do not know their full names but would like to address the invitations properly. How do I politely inquire as what someone's name is? If I can only find out an initial is it proper to address the invitation that way (ex Miss E. Maria Burton)? How do I respond to guests who reply to the initial inquiry with a nickname (Bud, etc.)? Do I just abandon all hope of properly addressing formal invitations in the face of all the informality in the world today? Thanks

Re: [stellagirl] Names for Addressing formal invitations

Dear Stellagirl,
You could simply ask them their names and tell them why. But, it would be just fine to address them as they are most well known. If the person is known as Bud, then that is typically the name they prefer to be called.
