Post card "save the date cards"?

Hi everyone!!
Smile I've got a question. My fiancee and I are not going to get our invitations done 'the conventional way'. We plan on doing them on special paper, with calligraphy pens and ink. So, my question is: is it ok to send Save the Date cards on some cute postcards that we have at home? Of course, we're on a very meager budgetUnsure and I'm not sure what else we could do.

P.S. the postcards aren't wedding related...that's why I'm a little wary of doing it. But he knows his friends would get a kick out of it.

Dear Post Card,

Not wedding related can carry a multitude of sins. If there is a question of taste regarding what the post cards relate to by all means consider using something else. Even though it isn't the official invitation to your wedding, it sets the tone for your formality.
