Received a save the date card but no invitation

We got a save the date card for my husband's cousin's wedding back in the fall. It told us about different local hotels, rental car places, date of the wedding, pre-wedding dinner, day after dinner. It said the "real" invitation was to follow. It's now 8 weeks untill the wedding and we have heard nothing about it. My husband doesn't know his cousin too well and my husband is not on speaking terms with his own parents (there is a lot of history here). My husband wanted to go to the wedding but will not make hotel plans untill we get the real invitation. What should he do?

Dear Stacebabe,

This is tough. It isn't polite to ask, but you need to know. Actually, you probably should have made plans by now. Hopefully you can still find a room.

If there is no one to ask who isn't the bride or groom, wait until six weeks before the wedding and call. You are already invited. So, you aren't asking for an invitation. You would be asking them if the wedding is to take place and if any of the plans have changed.

Best wishes,
