Response card wording, is a guest invited?

I recieved a wedding invitation and the response card was worded like this...
M___________

_ will attend

_ will not attend

_ of _ guest(s) attending

in the last part it is written in so that it says _ of 1 guest(s) attending. Does this mean that I am invited to bring along 1 guest with me or does it simply mean that only I am invited and the '1' refers to me only and not a guest.

This may seem like a silly question but I have asked several people about this and keep getting different answers. Thanks for the help.

Dear BluePants,

This is very confusing. I've not seen this before. But, it was inevitable really. Too many people don't know how to be good guests and thus bring guests with them. I am guessing, but it appears that the "1" refers to you. If you were allowed a date, there should have been a notation on an enclosure or written on the envelope.

Best wishes,
