Sending invites to people who won't bring a guest

Hello again,

We are inviting several, older people who have been single for quite some time now. Even if we are positive they won't bring a guest, should we still send the invitation to Mr. John Doe and Guest? I am just afraid that they would RSVP for two "just in case" and then not bring anyone, which would in turn cause us to pay for meal that won't be eaten. Most of these people are friends of the groom's parents and some older cousins of the bride.

Thanks

Dear FarminRaeRae,

You are only obligated to allow for an escort if your guest is in a relationship. But, it is nice to allow for one if you have the ability.

Best wishes,
