Using doctor when addressing wedding invitation to chiropractor

I know that medical doctors should be addressed as "Doctor Mary Smith". However, my fiance and I have a difference of opinion about chiropractors. Would our chiropractor guests be "Doctor Jane Doe" or "Ms. Jane Doe"? (He thinks the former and I think the latter).

Dear Jjtdm,

This is a tricky subject. Most don't have the typical doctorate, but are called doctor. I usually err on the side of using Doctor, but it may be best to call her secretary and ask. Some who are known as doctor often don't wish to use the title outside work. So, it is best to ask.

Not too many years ago, we wouldn't use "Doctor" in writing unless the person was a medical doctor. It is much different now, which is fairer to all.

Best wishes,
