My husband and I were married privately at our clergy's house with just our children and his mother in attendance (mine couldn't make it). That was in February 2008. We decided we would plan a dinner reception/anniversary on our 1st anniversary to invite people that couldn't be included in our wedding because we couldn't afford a wedding back then. I was thinking of sending out a card with our wedding details on the back and some sort of wording about inviting them to the dinner to celebrate our marriage/anniversary? Is there a correct way to do this? Please? I'm pulling my hair out over this!
Thanks!!

Re: Wording for a reception invitation one year later

Under the circumstances which you married and, since you'll be celebrating one year later, it would probably be best to call your event an anniversary party. The wording for that sort of party would be very informal and shouldn't cause you too much trouble since it will be obvious that you were married since you are having an anniversary.

I agree. This would be an anniversary party. And, for the first anniversary we don't usually create a huge party out of it. It definitely wouldn't be a gift giving event. So, please do not mention wanting any gifts even if asked, because some guests may be confused since you have been married for only a year. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
