Wording wedding reception invites when guests are paying
What is the best way to word reception invites to let the guests know they must pay for their own dinner?

It is improper to invite guests and then ask them to pay so, there is no way to properly word an invitation like this. When you invite, you pay. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

Young couple with a baby can't afford to pay. Marrying at the courthouse, would like family and friends to help celebrate joyous occassion by having dinner as a large group with everyone paying their own way. How do you invite them?

If you invite them, you're paying. You might be able to spread the word through the family that you may be having a meal after the ceremony at "name of restaurant here", but you wonlt invite them. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

I completely agree. You could also have cake and beverages at home. You don't have to have a meal.
