     wedding invitation wording

I am the mother of the bride. We recently mailed out the wedding invitations and were informed that the grooms parents were very upset that they had not been included on the invitations. What is the proper way of deciding if the grooms parents should be on the invitation too. Since we are paying for the wedding and we are the parents of the bride I assumed it was the brides parents giving out the invitation, am I wrong?
