I have a little problem here. My fiance and I sent out an invitation addressed to a single guest. We got the respond card back with 2 guests attending and found out that he plans on inviting some girl. This wouldn't have been a problem if we addresed the inivitation joe smith & guest, but we know he's single and this girl isn't even really a friend of ours. How do I deal with this without sounding like an ass.

If space and finances are not an issue you could certainly just allow him to bring a guest. If you cannot accomodate another guest then you will have to call your friend and let him know that due to limited space or financial concerns (or whatever reason you want to give) you cannot allow him to bring a date. offer your sincerest apologies and give a good reason. We could definately fit them space wise, but its the entire principal of the sitituation. We don't even really like the guest he is bringing and I figure that I have a right not wanting her to attend. Our wedding and reception is for people that we want to share it with. We did not invite his date for a reason. Is this too harsh?

Yes, it is certainly your perogative to invite only those you want to spend the day with however, whenever giving any sort of party do keep your guests comfort and enjoyment in mind as well. Having a date along will enable your guest to possibly enjoy himself a bit more since he will have someone to converse and dance with. I would suggest that, if space and finances allow, that you overlook this guests "faux paus" and allow him to bring the date. In 5 years from now you won't remember this small issue but if it turns into a hot arguement with your friend the situation may not be easily forgotten.
