who should be invited to the wedding

I have a friend who grew up with me but who I see only occasionally. She wants to help with a bridal shower for my daughter's wedding, along with several other friends. We were not planning to invite her to our daughter's wedding until we found out she wanted to help with the shower. Out of respect, should we invite her to the wedding now?

Since showers are optional parties, and not really needed in these modern times, I would thank her appropriately but decline the offer saying your wedding invitation list is limited due to (insert the reason, i.e limited seating, small venue/budget, etc).

Absolutely agreed. Plus, mothers or their friends shouldn't host the bridal shower. Friends of your daughter may if they wish to.

And, only those invited to the wedding may be invited to this optional party.
