We are having a swing band, with 4 members playing at the service and during the meal, and 6 joining for dancing later, hired and paid independently of the venue. Our venue wants to charge $60.00 pp to feed them. Aren't they working people who should come fed, or are they considered guests who eat the same gourmet dinner? The service is at 5:30 pm and they are through playing at 10:00. Does this require a meal? An extra $600.00 to feed the band is a big blow to our budget.

This is a contractural item which is probably in the bands contract. Check the contract if it does not say that they have to be fed the same meal as the guests, ask the caterer to do a vendor meal (turkey club with chips and cookies). It is common to feed the vendors who are with you throughout the reception. Most vendor meals run under $20 per person.
