DJ for an afternoon wedding reception

We are having an outdoor ceremony in the spring of 2008. Our ceremony and reception are being held at the same location. Our wedding time is 12-1 with the reception following. I am unsure what to do about music for the reception because we are having it so early. We are also having an after party but I want to stay traditional with dancing at the afternoon reception. Is it tacky to have a dj for an afternoon reception? Should we save our first dance, etc for the after party? Would live music be more acceptable? Need help!!

There is nothing wrong with having a dj for your early afternoon reception. To book a dj or live music is a personal choice you will have to make. As for your first dance, I recommend that you do that during your wedding reception either before the main meal, or after. Have fun at your after party!

Cheers!

I completely agree.

Plus, please note that all guests must be invited to the 'entire' reception. This includes the after party.

Best wishes,
