Several things determine how many songs are played. Generally I played 6 to 10 per hour for most weddings. There have been a few where in a 3 hour reception I played 10 to 12 songs with all the things they had going on during the reception. Pretty much during those weddings I was just used as an announcer for the toasts, bouquet toss, cake cutting, garter toss, etc... One wedding they were so disorganized I only played 3 or 4 songs because they couldn't make up their minds about when to do things. I usually try to play easy music during the initial serving of food ( if they have a dinner or lunch during the reception) things like Kenny G, Enya, instumentals things like that. Initiallly during the beginning of the reception after the dinner most of the songs are of the romantic type then goes into the ones that get the blood going and wakes everybody up. It usually depends on the bride and groom as to what kind of music should be played during specific events and the general genre for the rest of the evenings. I've had it to where anything could be played and any requests could be played to the wedding where the bride told her mother she was not allowed to even talk to me about music.
