Dinner with no space for live music--what music to play??

Hello,

I am getting married in January and our reception is going to be a nice sit down dinner at a private restaurant. We do not space for a band or dancing, so we are just going to make and play a CD while we eat. I was wondering if you have any ideas on what type of music we should play. The dinner should be 2-3 hours.

Thanks!

You could put up a variety of easy listening music or soft jazz. This is something that is used during meals at most events and allows for easy conversation.

Since the event may last up to three hours, you might consider creating 30 minute sections of music, from instrument only to top 40 hits. This way the music helps separate out the evening.

The "get together before the dinner" music should be upbeat and celebratory, as people will be actively greeting each other and chatting, so the music needs to be more forceful than a quiet song.

The "sit down to dinner" music, keep it soft and unobtrusive, a relaxing music to go with the meal.

If you are planning a "cake cutting" during the evening, include a song that fits the action....like "Cut the Cake" Wink for the garter section, we often play "Leave Your Hat On". These types of songs help tell the crowd what is getting ready to happen and helps get the crowd enthused.

After dessert is served and people are relaxing, replete with food and comraderie, a soft jazz and good mellow music will help end the evening on the right "note".

With the ability to mix your own music using your computer and burning your own music CD, you will be able to orchestrate a wonderful evening for your guests and your family to remember. Remember, it's all about the memories!

Hi: The previous suggestions should work out very well. We might also suggest that you might want to play a song that might have been your first dance - if you were going to have one. A song that is especially meaningful to both of you, that expresses your feelings about your relationship. We agree that most all of the music should be instrumental, but in this one case, it might be an emotional moment to play "your song".

Thank you! At what time of the dinner do you think would be good to play "our song"?
