Using ipod for wedding reception music

Is it appropriate to have our ipod hooked up with music to last the entire night opposed to having a DJ for our wedding reception entertainment? We were planning on getting requests prior to the wedding and programming our own music. Our venue has an iPod hook up right in the hall with sufficient amount of speakers. The groom isn't sure and we're leaning towards a DJ. I am on the fence. He says the final decision is up to me.

PLEASE HELP ME!

Although this is a very economic move, it sets a different mood and the guests will feel less inclined to dance.
