Would taking the engagement photo outside be okay? My fiance is wanting to be "creative", apparently.

wedding_crazed,
Your engagement photography should reflect your personality as a couple as well as meet your needs for the usage of that photo. If you are going to be submitting to you local newspaper, keep the background simple and the focus on the two of you. For artwork for your home, you may want to have other shots that perhaps include the two of you in a beautiful environment but is less of a "headshot". Shooting outdoors is a wonderful idea of your fiancee's but be sure to discuss with him your needs as well. You may be concerned about the wind blowing your hair or heat causing unwanted "shine" on your face etc.
Think about how large the photo is going to be printed. That will affect how tight the photographer needs to come in on your faces. A small photo will need to be tighter. A huge 20"x30" for your wall doesn't have to be. Ultimately, it should express the two of you happily in love. Luke at Edmonson Weddding Photography http://www.edmonsonweddings.com

Hi,
Absolutely. It's quite common for couples to do outdoor engagement sessions. What better prop can you ask for than that of nature? If you want studio photos as well, discuss the possibility of a doing both studio and outdoor with your fiance', and your photographer. I'm sure something can be worked out. Good luck.
