     Vegas Slide Show

My husband and I would like to go to Vegas and have a surprise wedding ceremony. We are a very fun, spontaneous, and "out there" couple. Upon our return we would like to have a "traditional" mock wedding with all our family and friends. Would it be appropriate to show a slide show of our Vegas wedding towards the end of the ceremony? should it wait for the reception? or is it a bad idea all together since our guests think they are coming to THE wedding?

This would not be polite to your guests. There is no such thing as a mock wedding so we couldn't offer etiquette advice on hosting that event. It's never a good idea to fool your guests, unless for a surprise party and then you're only surprising the guest of honor and not those bringing gifts. However, you could certainly run off to Vegas to be married and host a reception at home. Playing a video of your wedding is appropriate and guests usually enjoy seeing the ceremony. Keep in mind that a reception is not the gift giving portion of the wedding. Although many guests invited to a reception will send a gift, you shouldn't expect one.

I couldn't agree more. To mock is to make fun of someone or something. We wouldn't do this to those closest to us.

A reception is an excellent idea.
