We are getting married in February and I am having problems planning as it is in the middle of Winter.
The ceremony is planned for 2pm, so that there should be maybe an hour of daylight left to take photographs afterwards. If the ceremony is at 2pm, what is the appropriate time for the reception? (I have seen other threads where it is recommended to have the reception/cocktail hour to start straight after the ceremony, or others where it is acceptable to start at 6pm or so). Starting the reception at about 4pm seems a little strange to me and would mean that it is over by about 9pm. Having it later to start about 6pm means that there is a huge gap in between in which guests need to be entertained or wait. As it is in the middle of winter and probably knee deep with snow outside, what will our guests do in-between?

I highly recommend that you have the reception immediately following the ceremony. It is very uncomfortable to expect guests to entertain themselves for more than a half hour to 1 hour. If you want a later reception, I suggest you ammend the time of your ceremony to later. Nancy Tucker President of Weddings Beautiful US http://www.weddingsbeautiful.com
