Backing out of a wedding already RSVP'd too.

I've RSVP'd to a wedding in June and it would require buying a plane ticket, renting a car and paying for a hotel room. Due to the expense I realized I'm not going to be able to attend. How do I tactfully back out of a wedding where my presence is expected?

Dear Blondie,

Due to the economy, this is a common issue. So, be honest with the couple and inform them ASAP that you will not be able to attend. A phone call would be best.

Best wishes,
