Can bride contact videographer if groom's parents are giving thats service as a wedding gift
Hello,
I'm trying to be meticulous with my planning and to get everything organized well in advance of my wedding next year. I prefer to have everything stored on my personal spreadsheet on my computer as well as my wedding planning book. I'm in control of all vendors, except for the videographer. That is because my fiance' mother and step father have offered to gift that service to us for our wedding. I'm told the person is a professional contact of my fiance's step father.
Would be okay for me to ask my future mother-in-law for contact information for the videographer so that I can touch base personally (that's the control freak in me) and also pass along some important information about my ceremony, reception, location, etc. In addition, I'd really like to see a sample of their work. I realize that might be pushing it, but what are your expert thoughts on this matter? Because of the touchy nature of it being offered to us as a gift, I'm not sure how far I can go or if this is something that only my fiance should handle and, if so, how much can he ask for given the circumstances?

Dear Gtgirl,
This is not unreasonable. After all, this is a gift to the both of you. Plus, it is a very important element in your event. So of course, you would want control over the results.
Asking for samples of his work could be tricky though. But, you could ask tactfully like, "It would help us if we saw samples of your work; after all this is our first time and we don't really know where to begin telling you what we want."
It may be best if your fiance asks for the contact information though. You two would appear more as a team, which is a positive.

But, what will you do if you don't like this videographer? That is a serious question since you wouldn't want to insult your new in-laws. Hopefully, you'll love the videographer, but, discuss what you'll do together and have a plan. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
